Project Overview

ML partnered with the George Kaiser Family Foundation to introduce Tulsa’s tech and innovation economy to the world via a unique parent brand. The parent brand would lead a collective of programs with a unified voice, and help showcase the existing ecosystem and various efforts to create a vibrant, innovative, and equitable community full of opportunity in Tulsa.

Coming Home to Tulsa

The Tulsa For You and Me visual identity was designed to reflect the creativity, ingenuity, and warmth of the city’s residents. Embodied with soft, approachable corners and slight irregularities on the edges of letter forms, the word mark is distinctly human. The letter forms, with their own distinct colors and shape, champion the diversity offered by this energetic city. The bold identity creates an even more powerful impression and helps strengthen Tulsa’s sense of destination.

Building a digital front door.

As part of its $10 billion endowment to advance and power Tulsa's economy, George Kaiser Family Foundation (GKFF) created or invested in a number of organizations — across commerce, innovation, income equality, and early childhood education. The intention of all of these organizations was to help any individual or business improve their chances for success and reach their full potential.

To unify their story through one front door, the organization partnered with Manual Labor. Working across all of GKFF-supported organizations, Manual Labor was able to align stakeholders on key signals and themes, resulting in tulsaforyou.com - a digital destination welcoming all looking to put roots down or continue growing them in Tulsa.

For You & Me

For the brand’s messaging, ML sought to capture the spirit of Tulsa — its individuals, entrepreneurs, start-ups, and the community at large. The goal was lofty: uncover the Tulsa brand’s north star, and from it create a playbook for all ecosystem programs to form a common brand language.

We discovered community drives Tulsa. A community we are all shaping and building, together. Tulsa: For You & Me debuted in Austin at SXSW to resounding acclaim. Tulsa, the big-small city, lets people get connected, be engaged, and feel like they belong in a diverse and inclusive community.

Our presence this year [at SXSW] was definitely felt. The whole overall feeling — I just can't even explain it. It was amazing and I was just so proud to be a part of it.
